Espanyol defender Mario Hermoso is on Real Madrid’s radar to add some depth to the defensive line this winter and has a €7 million release clause if Los Blancos come calling. However, he wants to be a starter or at least a very relevant player and might not accept to leave Espanyol and join Real Madrid if he can’t get the minutes he needs to develop as a player.
Other clubs might be interested in Hermoso and his release clause for them would be €40 million. Real Madrid own 50% of Hermoso’s rights and would earn €20 million if another club ends up paying his release clause and reaching an agreement with the player, but Los Blancos would rather sign the player.
With Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane as the undisputed starters in the center of the defensive line, it will be hard for Madrid to give Hermoso the kiind of role he wants, but he can clearly be the first defender off the bench whenever one of those players isn’t available.
