River Plate president Rodolfo D’Onofrio talked to Radio MARCA after his club conquered the Copa Libertadores Final played at the Santiago Bernabeu last Sunday. D’Onofrio delivered some quotes about Real Madrid’s interest in midfielder Exequiel Palacios, who is reportedly going to become a Madrid player very soon.
“The only thing we talked with Real Madrid was between Butragueño and Francescoli. They talked about the player but we agreed to speak about it later. I guess those talks will happen now if they are interested. If they want him, the best Madrid and Palacios could do would be to wait a bit more,” explained D’Onofrio, who wants to keep Palacios for another year.
“Florentino Perez made us feel very welcome. I promised to him that we had to win because the Bernabeu was Di Stefano’s stadium, we had to make Madrid fans happy in that sense. We just had to win it. We had to do it for Di Stefano,” added the president about the title for River.
Even though some reports suggested that Madrid wanted Palacios to join the club this winter, it seems that the midfielder won’t officially wear the white shirt until next summer.
