Real Madrid drew Leganes in the draw for the Copa Del Rey's Round of 16. Even though that most fans could consider this a good draw for Los Blancos, they need to keep in mind that Madrid got knocked out of the domestic competition by Leganes just a year ago.
“We don’t have good memories of this clash. They knocked us out last year but I believe it’ll be different this time. It will of course be a tight-fought affair. We will have to avoid complacency and play a fantastic tie over both legs in order to qualify. It looks very evenly-matched at this stage. The fact they’re further down the table means nothing when it comes to the Copa. We’ll have to make sure of a good result at the Bernabéu to get through at their ground. It will be an even couple of games and we’ll have to produce our best," said Butragueño right after the draw was official.
Coach Santiago Solari will most likely use his reserves in this stage of the competition, though. Real Madrid tend to use the Copa Del Rey as a chance for the younger players to get quality minutes, even more so if they have to play the FIFA Club World Cup in December.
The first leg will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu in the second week of January.
