Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has rejected the club’s first offer to extend his current contract, according to a report from Telemadrid. His current deal expires in the summer of 2020 and Inter Milan would try to sign him again next summer, per that same report.
The Italian club were very interested in Modric this past summer but the midfielder ended up staying in the Spanish capital with hopes of signing a better contract with Real Madrid. Modric has won FIFA The Best award and the Ballon D’Or this year and would want to earn as much as Sergio Ramos, according to some reports. Madrid, knowing that Modric is already 33 years old, might be willing to increase his salary but could decide not to extend his contract beyond 2020, given that Modric might be entering his decline as a player sooner rather than later.
Either way, Madrid and Modric will almost surely end up reaching an agreement, especially now that the midfielder has improved his form after a poor start to the 2017-18 season with Los Blancos.
