France Football just officially announced that Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has conquered the 2018 Ballon D’Or, an award he is receiving after conquering the Champions League title and leading Croatia to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final.

Modric beat former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, who ended up finishing third in the voting process even though he claimed that a French player should’ve won the award after winning the World Cup title.

Modric also won FIFA’s The Best award and UEFA’s Best Player of the Year award this season. The midfielder has been a crucial player for Madrid in all four of their recent Champions League titles and he is finally getting the credit he deserves. It’s also good to see a midfielder winning individual accolades which are usually territory for attackers. Modric is arguably the best midfielder of his generation and Real Madrid were lucky to sign him for €35 million.
