Real Madrid, currently 19 points behind Barcelona in the table, out of the Copa del Rey and facing a crucial tie against PSG in just two weeks time, became the only club in La Liga Santander who didn’t make a single move during this transfer window.
There were some clubs like Barcelona —Coutinho—, Atletico de Madrid —Diego Costa—, Valencia —Vietto— or Sevilla —Roque Mesa— making some important upgrades to their roster. Athletic Bilbao, for instance, had to replace Laporte with Iñigo Martinez, while Betis have also improved their squad with Bartra and Ruben Castro.
It’s quite shocking to see Real Madrid staying put in the market after such a disastrous start to the 2017-18 season. Los Blancos can only compete for the Champions League title now and they decided that they will upgrade the squad in the summer instead of overpaying for a player who might not actually improve their chances of winning the European title this year.
One things is for certain, though. Real Madrid will be busy when the summer comes.
