UEFA have appointed Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi as the man in charge of Wednesday’s match between Real Madrid and PSG in the Champions League’s Round of 16. Rocchi definitely has the experience for this crucial game.
Per Realmadrid.com
Gianluca Rocchi has been appointed to referee the Champions League round of 16 first-leg encounter between Real Madrid and PSG at the Santiago Bernabéu (Wednesday, 8:45pm CET). It will be the fifth time that the Italian has overseen a Whites’ match.
In 2011/12 he refereed the Champions League quarter-final match against APOEL FC at the Santiago Bernabéu (5-2). In 2012/13 he was in charge of Manchester City v Real Madrid in the Group Stages (1-1) and in 2015/16, Wolfsburg v Real Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-finals (2-0) European Super Cup. The last Whites’ meeting refereed by Rocchi took place on 8 August 2017. It was the final of the European Super Cup between Real Madrid and Manchester United in Skopje, a match which ended with a victory for Zidane’s side (2-1).
Real Madrid will need to be careful as Rocchi likes to keep the game under control by showing a good amount of yellow cards, especially if he sees that the teams are playing with a lot of intensity.
