Lyon attacker Mariano Diaz completed a brilliant performance against Villarreal in the UEFA Europa League. The striker delivered two assists and Lyon ended up earning a solid 3-1 win. After the game, Mariano had some words to say about his potential return to Real Madrid.
“Real Madrid don’t have a buyback option, they own 35% of my rights,” said the attacker, implying that if Los Blancos ever show interest in signing him away from Lyon the deal would be significantly cheaper. They would also earn some money if Lyon decide to sell Mariano to any given club.
While it would’ve been great to keep Mariano around and Real Madrid need to sign a striker next summer, it looks like Los Blancos will look elsewhere instead of bringing back the 24-year-old attacker. Mariano is shining for Lyon but he might still need a few more seasons so that he can actually make a big impact in Real Madrid.
