Real Madrid will increase Cristiano Ronaldo’s current salary €9 million/year and the Portuguese star will end up earning around €30 million for the remainder of his contract, according to Spanish newspaper ABC. It’s important to note that Real Madrid will not actually extend Ronaldo’s deal, which expires in 2021, they will only increase his wages.
Cristiano Ronaldo will match Messi and Neymar’s deals with Barcelona and PSG, something he felt he deserved after winning both the Ballon D’Or and The Best award this winter.
Still, the Portuguese attacker turns 33 years old this Monday and it’s fair to at least question whether this is actually a good move for Real Madrid or not based on Ronaldo’s performances this season. It seems clear that the Portuguese legend is past his prime and while he can still contribute and make a big impact for Real Madrid he’s not as young as the likes of Messi or Neymar, so this contract could end up hurting the club if Ronaldo can’t bounce back from his current form.
Cristiano Ronaldo apparently wants to stay with Real Madrid until his deal expires even though reports come out every summer suggesting that he wants out of the club.
