Real Sociedad right-back Alvaro Odriozola has reportedly been on Real Madrid’s radar for quite some time. The young defender will have a fine chance to impress when his team visit the Santiago Bernabeu this Saturday and he will try to make his case.
It seems clear that Madrid will have to upgrade their right-back position after selling Danilo to Manchester City last summer. Carvajal hasn’t performed very well this season but he is the only reliable option for that position as the promising Achraf Hakimi has proved time and time again that he cannot be trusted just yet. That is precisely why Odriozola, who just turned 22 years old in December, would fight right in.
Odriozola has a €40 million release clause, an affordable one considering how expensive the transfer market has been lately. However, Real Madrid will not be able to negotiate said clause with Real Sociedad and might need to trigger it if they want to sign the defender, just like they did when they signed Asier Illarramendi four years ago.
