Real Madrid are currently 15 points behind Barcelona in La Liga table with just 10 matches left to be played. It’s safe to say that Zidane’s men will not be conquering the domestic title this season and they should focus all their efforts in the Champions League as they try to win it for the third straight year.
Still, La Liga is their bread and butter, both for the players but also for the fans. While it’s clear that everyone will be waiting to know Real Madrid’s opponent in the Champions League’s Quarterfinals, coach Zinedine Zidane must find a way to make things interesting for Los Blancos every single weekend. Madrid must compete in every single game and the youngsters will surely want to prove their worth.
Zidane has been making rotations lately but young players who need developing such as Theo, Llorente, Vallejo, Achraf or Ceballos have not been used. These men cannot be trusted as they are too green to compete against tough opposition, but Zidane should still try to use them more often.
Starters like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos or Luka Modric aren’t getting any younger and they need every rest they can get. They also need to keep their good form going now that it seems that they’ve regained some of their groove, but Zidane should be smart and try to keep everyone engaged.
Why would players like Ceballos, Llorente or Theo want to stay next season if they can’t get minutes even when Real Madrid can’t win La Liga anymore? The B-Team of Asensio, James, Isco or Morata was much better than this one, that’s for sure, but Zidane used them when the season was at stake last year, even going away from most of the starters. Now it’s the right time to trust the young prospects while the starters get some rest and prepare for the tough Champions League tie ahead of them.
