Real Madrid midfielder Isco Alarcon scored a brilliant hat-trick during Spain’s win against Argentina this Tuesday and had some interesting words to say about his role with the club.
“Here [Spain] the coach gives me confidence and I have continuity, which I don’t have with Real Madrid and that’s something every player needs. Perhaps I don’t have it because I have not earned it,” said Isco. “I’ve got to keep working to earn Zidane’s trust,” he added.
That last sentence is key here. While the Spanish midfielder is clearly complaining about being in and out of the starting lineup throughout the course of a season, he is also admitting that it might have to do with his own performances, meaning that it isn’t all on coach Zinedine Zidane.
Isco will most likely start for Spain in the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup as he is one of Julen Lopetegui’s favorite players. His role for the tie against Juventus in the Champions League Quarterfinals could have him coming off the bench.
