Referee named for UEFA Champions League match between Real Madrid and Juventus

UEFA have appointed Turkish referee Cuneyt Çakir as the man in charge of Tuesday’s match between Juventus and Real Madrid in the opening leg of the Champions League Quarterfinals.

He has already officiated one match involving the European champions this season. It came in the group stages against Tottenham (3-1). Last season he was in charge of the clash with Napoli in Italy (1-3) and the semi-final meeting between Atlético and Real Madrid (2-1). In the 2015-16 campaign, he oversaw Malmö-Real Madrid 0-2) in the group stage and the first leg of the semi-finals between Manchester City and Real Madrid (0-0).

He also officiated for the Whites in the Champions League group stages in 2012-13 against Dortmund at the Bernabéu (2-2) and the second leg of the last-sixteen in Manchester against United (1-2). In 2011-12, he refereed Real Madrid-Lyon (4-0), also in the group stages.

Çakir is a quality referee who will not feel intimidated by the atmosphere in the Juventus Stadium, considering his experience.
