Three takeaways from Real Madrid’s 1-2 win against Malaga

Real Madrid took care of business against Malaga even without key starters like Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Luka Modric or Toni Kroos. Los Blancos completed a solid performance and earned the win. Here are three takeaways from the game.

  1. Isco’s form has improved at the right time. The Spanish midfielder scored a brilliant free-kick and kept on showing that he deserves to start for Real Madrid when they face Bayern Munich in the Semifinals. A month ago, Isco was dropped to the bench but his performance for Spain against Argentina gave him the confidence to regain his spot in the lineup.
  2. Benzema can play well when he’s not scoring. The French attacker doesn’t need to score to have an impact on the game and help his teammates win and that is precisely what he did against Malaga. “Karim is never going to throw in the towel. Of course he’d love to score and he’s had opportunities to do so. All he was lacking was the goal, he’ll keep going. It’s been a tough year for him in this regard,” said Zidane about Benzema. It will be interesting to see Benzema’s role against Bayern as he ended up not playing a single minute in the return leg against Juventus.
  3. Ceballos deserves more chances. This might sound like a broken record, but you only need to watch Ceballos play for 10 minutes to realize that he has a special talent. Real Madrid have nothing to play for in La Liga and men like Vallejo or Ceballos deserve to get relevant minutes in the domestic competition.
