UEFA appointed Dutch referee Björn Kuipers as the man in charge of the first leg between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the Champions League Semifinals.
Björn Kuipers has been appointed to referee Wednesday’s Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid game at Allianz Arena, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final (8:45pm CEST). It will be the fifth time that the Dutchman has overseen a Whites’ match.
In the 2013/14 season, he refereed the final between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid (4-1). In 2012/13 he was in charge of the semi-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park (4-1) and in the 2011/12 season, the round of 16 match against CSKA in Moscow (1-1). The last match Kuipers officiated was in Dortmund, in the second game of this season’s Group Stage against Borussia (1-3).

Kuipers has a lot of experience in big games and he should not be a problem. This will be a very intense game and Kuipers should not be intimidated by the atmosphere at the Allianz Arena. Still, players like Casemiro or Ramos, who are very physical, will need to be careful as Kuipers likes to show yellow cards quite often.
