Three keys to a Real Madrid win against Bayern Munich

Real Madrid visit Bayern Munich —20:45 CET—. How often have we written that same sentence over the last few seasons? This is definitely the most heated rivalry in Europe and both clubs will have more reasons to hate each other after this tie, that’s for sure. Here are three keys to a Real Madrid win at the Allianz Arena.

  1. Survive when you struggle. Make no mistake, this is not going to be an easy game for Real Madrid. The Allianz Arena will complain after every single call by the referee and Bayern are a very good team, possibly better than the one which took it to ET in last season’s Semifinals. Real Madrid will struggle at some points during this game and it will be very important for them to show character and stay in the game.
  2. Take advantage of Neuer’s absence. Starting goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is not expected to play in this first leg as he is still recovering from an injury. If that’s the case, Bayern will be missing a goalkeeper who can single-handedly prevent a few goals every single game. His performance at the Allianz Arena last season was phenomenal and yet Madrid found a way to win 1-2. Complete that same kind of performance and your lead will be bigger without Neuer this time.
  3. Use your depth. Asensio was great off the bench last season and is not expected to start this game either. Neither is Bale. Both men have the quality to come off the bench and dominate, so Zidane will have to trust them when the time is right, no matter what the score is.
