UEFA appointed Turkish referee Cuneyt Çakir as the man in charge of the return leg between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the Champions League Semifinals. Çakir was the referee on Madrid’s 0-3 win against Juventus in the Quarterfinals.
Çakir has already refereed the current European champion twice this campaign: the quarter-final against Juventus (0-3) and the Group Stage match against Tottenham in London (3-1). Last season he covered the round of 16 match in Italy against Napoli (1-3) and the semi-finals between Atlético and Real Madrid (2-1). In the 2015/16 season he refereed Malmö-Real Madrid (0-2) in the Group Stage and the first leg of the semi-finals between Manchester City and Real Madrid (0-0).
He also officiated the Whites in the 2012/13 Group Stage against Dortmund at the Bernabéu (2-2) and in the second leg of the round of 16 in Manchester against United (1-2). In 2011/12, he oversaw Real Madrid-Lyon (4-0) of the Group Stage.

It’s clear that Çakir will not be a problem next Tuesday. He is one of the most experienced referees in European football and the physicality and intensity of the game should not take him by surprise.
