Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo will start alongside Raphael Varane in the center of the team’s defensive line when Juventus visit the Bernabeu next week. Sergio Ramos’ suspension and Nacho’s injury —he won’t recover in time— force coach Zinedine Zidane’s hand and the young defender, who completed a solid performance against Las Palmas last Saturday, will get a good chance to prove his worth.
Vallejo has been in and out of the squad list this season because of injuries. It’s clear that he’s Zidane’s fourth choice for the center-back spot and yet he will have to stop Juventus’ efforts to come back from their 0-3 deficit.
Vallejo is still 21 years old and has shown flashes of impressive potential. However, there are serious concerns about his ability to stay healthy. He plays with composure and has good skills with the ball on his feet, but he will have to take care of his body and find a way to avoid injuries if he wants to be relevant for Real Madrid in the future.
