Varane rejoins Real Madrid’s squad before the Derby against Atletico

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane completed Friday’s training session with the rest of the squad after missing Thursday’s practice. Therefore, the defender appears to be set to face Atletico de Madrid on Sunday, even though coach Zinedine Zidane could give him some rest as his presence on the team’s defensive line in the return leg against Juventus could be crucial given Sergio Ramos’ suspension.

It’d make sense for Zidane to give Vallejo some minutes against Atletico, given that his young defender will have to face Juventus on Wednesday. Nacho isn’t available and that’s why Zidane must keep both Varane and Vallejo fresh enough to face the Italian side in what should be a manageable return leg but still a crucial one where Los Blancos can’t afford any mistakes.

Zidane will most likely speak about his defender during Saturday’s press conference, even though he is not expected to reveal his plans for the two games ahead.
