Real Madrid conquered their 13th Champions League title, also their third straight. Los Blancos beat Liverpool 3-1 thanks to two magnificent goals by Gareth Bale. While it seems that Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale wanted to get more attention with the comments they made after the game, here are three takeaways from Madrid’s 3-1 victory.

  1. Has Bale regained his spot as a star? It’s tough to make decisions as important as this one based on a single game, that’s for sure. However, Bale’s two golazos proved that this player might deserve another chance to stay healthy. The Welshman says he wants to play “week in and week out” and that he will sit with his agent to discuss his future this summer. If he can stay on the field and complete these performances, it’s clear that he should stay.
  2. Those who don’t understand Benzema’s contributions after last night will never appreciate the French attacker. The 2018 Champions League Final was the perfect example of what Benzema gives this team. Kroos, Modric and Isco were facing intense pressing from Liverpool’s midfielders and Benzema was the only one actually helping Madrid advance with the ball. His performance deserved a better goal than the one he scored.
  3. Varane is here to stay. He can be trusted. The French defender wrapped up a brilliant season with a great performance against Liverpool. He is still 25 years old and has many good years ahead of him. He will surely be the leader of Madrid’s defensive line when Ramos retires and while Madrid will need to find a quality center-back to replace the Spanish legend, Varane can and should be trusted.
