When Real Madrid decided to trust the young and inexperienced Achraf Hakimi for the backup right-back spot they surely believed they could actually rely on him much more. Achraf has been a liability every time he’s been on the field and while he definitely still has potential, it’s quite clear that Los Blancos will try to sign a right-back next summer.
That’s precisely where Alvaro Odriozola and Joao Concelo come in. Apparently, Madrid are very keen on signing Odriozola but they are also considering the young Cancelo, according to a report from Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Cancelo is spending the season with Inter Milan on a loan deal from Valencia but the Italian side will not trigger the €35 million option to make the deal permanent and sign the Portuguese defender for good. Valencia will be looking to make some money this summer as they plan to sign Gonzalo Guedes and Kondogbia, so Cancelo could be an affordable signing for Madrid if they really believe he is the man.
