New Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui arrived in the Spanish capital on Wednesday night after being sacked by the Spanish Federation just two days ahead of Spain’s debut in the FIFA World Cup against Portugal.
“I am very said but I hope that we win the World Cup,” said Lopetegui while leaving Spain’s camp in Krasnodar.
Real Madrid would like to unveil their new coach later this Thursday, according to reports from MARCA and AS. However, Lopetegui could ask for some more time to digest what happened this week. Either way, he will start working for the club very soon as he has to prepare the pre-season stage and think about the signings and departures he needs for this roster.
Lopetegui will sign a three-year deal with Real Madrid and will be expected to compete from day one. His first official game will be played against Atletico de Madrid in the UEFA Supercup Final.
