Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic wants to leave the club to become a starter elsewhere, according to a report from Cadena COPE. However, Madrid told the player that he won’t go anywhere and that they will reject every offer they get, per that same report.
Kovacic is happy in the club but wants to be a starter to keep developing. Apparently, the young midfielder believes that Modric still has many years of good football ahead of him and therefore he is not willing to wait that much to become a central piece in Madrid’s plans.
It’s clear that this was going to happen. Kovacic has great potential and could be a starter for most clubs in European football. He’s won it all with Real Madrid and now he wants to be relevant elsewhere. Former coach Zinedine Zidane told him to stay in the club last summer and Kovacic accepted, but the midfielder probably sees things differently now that Lopetegui is the coach.
Either way, losing Kovacic could be problematic for Madrid’s future, given that Modric is turning 33 years old next September and might need a replacement someday soon.
