Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to fight over the signing of midfielder Thiago Alcantara this summer, according to a report from Sport. Thiago appears to be ready to leave Bayern Munich for €70 million, a reasonable price considering what other clubs are paying for inferior players.
This signing would make a lot of sense if midfielder Mateo Kovacic ends up leaving the club as expected. Kovacic revealed that he wants to leave Real Madrid to become a starter elsewhere, so Los Blancos would need a replacement for both Modric and Toni Kroos. Furthermore, new coach Julen Lopetegui likes Thiago’s style of play and could be interested in his signing as well, so Madrid should be expected to go after the midfielder this summer.
Keep in mind that Thiago left Barcelona for €25 million five years ago, so it’s not clear whether both parts would be willing to meet again right now.
