Real Madrid are very interested in Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera to eventually replace Mateo Kovacic if the Croatian player ends up leaving the club this summer, according to a report from ESPN. Hector Herrera is currently a Porto player and new Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui gave him a huge role when he was with the Portuguese team a few years ago.
Herrera has completed two very good performances for Mexico in this World Cup and would have some suitors this summer as well, per that same ESPN report. Arsenal appear to be interested in the midfielder as well. Herrera’s contract with Porto expires next summer, so Porto could be forced to sell if the midfielder tells the club that he won’t sign an extension.
Hector Herrera is a quality player but his potential isn’t as great as Kovacic’s, that’s for sure. However, he could be a reasonable replacement if Madrid actually decide to sell the Croatian midfielder this summer.
