Marcelo says his injury “isn’t serious”

Good news for Brazil.

Real Madrid defender Marcelo was forced to leave Brazil’s match against Serbia with back spams, and while some feared that he could miss the remainder of the FIFA World Cup, it seems that the left-back will be ready soon enough.

“Thank you for your messages! Thankfully it was nothing serious and I’ll be back in no time! Very happy with the win!” wrote Marcelo on his Instagram account.

Brazil’s doctors will monitor Marcelo’s back given that the defender could potentially need to miss their next game in the Round of 16 in order to be completely recovered for the Quarterfinals.

Marcelo is one of the leaders of this Brazil team and he deserves to be on the pitch and carry his country to title contention. His importance to Brazil’s attacking system is huge because of his creativity, so even if Filipe Luis is a quality defender, Marcelo will need to recover if Brazil want to increase their odds of winning the tournament.
