Mascarell spent the last two seasons with Eintracth Frankfurt and Real Madrid decided to trigger the €4 million buyback clause on his contract in order to sell him now that his performances in the German Bundesliga increased his value. All things considered, Los Blancos received a net profit of €6 million in the deal.
Real Madrid are reportedly keeping yet another buyback clause on Mascarell’s deal with Schalke. He is already 25 years old and it looks like he might never have the potential to play for Madrid’s first team, but Los Blancos will surely take a look at his performances with Schalke before making a decision on his future.
“We’re very happy that Omar Mascarell wants to play for us, he is a great player who has proven himself at the Bundesliga. He is strong and very smart on the pitch,” said coach Domenico Tedesco.
