Marcelo: “Cristiano doesn’t own Real Madrid. I think Neymar will play for Madrid one day”

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo spoke to the press ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup which will be played in Russia in just a week. The Brazilian defender was asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation with the club and also about Madrid’s potential interest in Neymar.

“Cristiano doesn’t own Real Madrid so if the president wants to sign somebody he will do it. If Cristiano stays, does that mean that Neymar can’t come? We all want Ronaldo to stay and Neymar has our doors wide open, Madrid always have to find the best players and I think Neymar will play for Real Madrid one day,” explained Marcelo.

The left-back also talked about whether Neymar can be Ronaldo’s successor.

“I’ve yet to understand how the Ballon D’or works. I just don’t know if you get it because of the titles you’ve won, the season you’ve completed or just how good you are as a player. It’s up to those voting. To me, Ronaldo is the world’s greatest right now and I have no doubt in my mind that Neymar will be just as good,” added Marcelo.

It seems that Real Madrid will only try to sign Neymar if Ronaldo ends up leaving the club, given that the club would need to spend more than €250 million to sign the Brazilian attacker away from PSG.
