Julen Lopetegui spoke with Realmadrid.com and Real Madrid TV in his first interview as the coach of the club. The Spanish manager revealed his extremely happy in the Spanish capital and is looking forward to doing a good job in his debut season for Madrid.
“I like everything about Real Madrid, even the club anthem. I’ve got a very strong squad that’s capable of facing up to the challenges that lie ahead with real confidence. I’m certain that you’ll see a competitive side with very clear ideas about what we’re doing,” said an enthusiastic Lopetegui.
Lopetegui was a Real Madrid Castilla and Real Madrid reserve goalkeeper during his career as a goalkeeper. Now, he’s back with the club but this time as the coach.
“It’s always special to return to Real Madrid because I’ve always considered it as being home. It’s where I grew up, learned my trade and the club has played a big part in who I am today. To return as first -team coach is extremely special and it’s a source of responsibility and excitement. I’m joining the best and most demanding club in the world. I’m certain that I’ll be able to meet those demands and we’ve got to start working towards our first chance to win some silverware, which will come on 15 August in the UEFA Super Cup against Atlético,” said Lopetegui.
The Spanish coach wants to have success after Zidane’s impressive tenure with the club. Lopetegui believes he has a very good squad at his disposal.
“I’ve got a really strong squad, regardless of what happens and there will be some tweaks and situations that will be resolved in the coming weeks. We’ll have an extremely strong squad that’ll be capable of facing up to all of the challenges that lie ahead with real confidence,” said the coach.
Finally, Lopetegui sent a message to the fans ahead of what will be a very interesting season for the club.
“I want to thank the madridistas for accepting my appointment and giving me this responsibility. Without doubt, we’ll try to manage that duty with pride, responsibility, excitement, lots of hard work, demand a lot of ourselves, which is what Real Madrid demands of us, and with the certainty that we’ll be a great side and will fight on all fronts, which is what Real Madrid teams must always do. Madridismo is always there in times of need and I’m sure that they’ll be there for us,” concluded Real Madrid’s manager.
