Odriozola will be expected to compete for the starting spot with Dani Carvajal, although he’s younger and lacks the experience at an elite level, so he will most likely be Carvajal’s backup during his first couple of seasons. However, he’s definitely an upgrade for the right-back spot as Carvajal will be able to rotate and miss some games now that Odriozola is with the team.
He’s an offensive-minded right-back who will be able to have an impact for the team’s attacking system.
Real Madrid spent €40 million to sign Odriozola away from Real Sociedad in what was a good deal for Los Blancos, given that the young defender is one of the most promising right-backs in European football and a player who could’ve been more expensive without his release clause.
