Real Sociedad right-back Alvaro Odriozola is about to complete his move to Real Madrid after Los Blancos met with president Jokin Aperribay to discuss how they’ll trigger the €40 million release clause on Odriozola’s contract, according to reports from both MARCA and AS.

Odriozola is a young and promising defender who completed a quality season for Real Sociedad, something which ultimately allowed him to be in the 2018 FIFA World Cup with the Spanish national team. He is still 22 years old and will not be expected to start for Real Madrid next season, although he will learn by being behind Carvajal in the rotation while also replacing him when he isn’t ready to play.

New coach Julen Lopetegui is one of Odriozola’s biggest fans as he included him in the squad list for the World Cup ahead of the starter for FC Barcelona Sergi Roberto, which means that Lopetegui will be pleased with this signing once it becomes official.
