After weeks of reports, it is now official— Alvaro Odriozola is a Real Madrid player. The former Real Sociedad man will play at the Santiago Bernabeu for six seasons. Madrid is rumored to have paid his release clause somewhere around €40 million.
The arrival of Julen Lopetegui will likely have expedited the deal. The former Spanish National team coach was a huge admirer of the Basque talent. Lopetegui selected Odriozola over the likes of Sergi Roberto and Hector Bellerin for his World Cup squad.
Odriozola will come in to contest Carvajal’s starting position as Achraf Hakimi is likely on his way to Dortmund with a two year loan. At 22 years of age, the right full back has bursted on to the scene due to his attacking instincts and blazing speed.
Bienvenidos Alvaro!
