Real Madrid and Luka Modric have reached an agreement over a salary raise for the Croatian midfielder, who will match Sergio Ramos’ current wages only behind Gareth Bale on Real Madrid’s budget. MARCA are reporting the news and added that the only thing missing is Modric’s signature.
Modric was reportedly willing to leave Real Madrid without this salary raise because he felt he deserved a better contract after his brilliant performances last season and also in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The truth is that Modric has been leaving Madrid’s midfield for many years now and deserved some recognition, although he will be 33 years old next September and might be entering his decline very, very soon.
All in all, it seems that the rumors suggesting Modric will join Inter Milan this summer will be dismissed now. Real Madrid just let Kovacic joined Chelsea on a loan deal and that meant that they knew Modric was staying.
