New Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois explained the reasons behind his move to the Spanish capital during his unveiling with the club. Courtois said that he wanted to be close to his children while also mentioning that he wanted to play for Real Madrid as well. However, his agent delivered some interesting quotes in an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live.
“The situation would’ve been different had his family lived in London. He would’ve stayed there, in fact. There’s just no reason to leave a club like Chelsea where he could’ve kept winning titles,” said Henrotay.
“Unfortunately, his children live with their mother in Madrid. These are personal reasons we’re talking about and we just have to respect them. Chelsea understood the situation and made the deal possible,” he added.
“It’s true that some players force their way out and it’s also true that Thibaut was getting anxious about the whole situation because Madrid made an offer for him and he had a chance to go there. He had anxiety thinking that the whole deal was not going to work,” revealed Courtois’ agent.
He also explained why the goalkeeper decided not to train with Chelsea when the move was about to be done.
“The transfer was almost complete, it would’ve been best not to do that, but that’s what happened and now everyone is happy,” concluded Henrotay.
