Sevilla president Jose Castro confirmed this Tuesday that Real Madrid are set to sign Mariano Diaz. The Andalusian club was ready to complete the transfer for the attacker but Madrid ultimately decided to match their offer and sign the player.

“We are an ambitious club that tries to make ambitious deals,” Castro said. “Madrid had a buy-back option and they have told us that they are going to exercise it,” he added. “Still, the player hasn’t told us anything yet and we are waiting for him to respond because he’s said a thousand times that he wants to play for Sevilla,” explained the president.

However, Mariano tweeted just a few weeks ago that you “can’t say no to Real Madrid”, implying that he prefers a move to the Spanish capital even if it means that he won’t be an undisputed starter. Real Madrid will reportedly pay €22 million to sign the attacker as they already owned 35% of his rights.
