Real Madrid couldn’t care less about the rumors saying that Inter Milan will go after midfielder Luka Modric this summer. President Florentino Perez spoke to the press in Miami and said that they won’t accept offers for Modric and that clubs interested in him will have to trigger his release clause.
“The only chance that Modric leaves is if someone pays €750 million,” said Real Madrid’s president.
Modric reportedly wants a new deal even though his current contract expires in 2020. The midfielder is in great form and won the Best Player Award in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Still, he will turn 33 years old and Madrid might have to decide not to extend his contract but to increase his salary.
The midfielder is yet to join Real Madrid’s squad in training and won’t be ready to play the UEFA Super Cup against Atletico de Madrid. However, it’s clear that he will be a key player for new coach Julen Lopetegui starting alongside Kroos in the midfield.
