Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz will wear number 7 this 2018-2019 season, according to a report from Cadena COPE’s Miguel Diaz.

“Juanito, Butragueño, Raul, Cristiano...And now Mariano!!! Real Madrid have their number 7,” reported Diaz.
This is a bold move by Mariano. It will be extremely hard for him —if not impossible— to come close to the kind of performance Real Madrid fans expect from a player wearing that number. It’s just a number, sure, but in the end almost every Madrid player wearing the ‘7’ has had sucess.
On the other hand, it also proves that Mariano is not afraid. The attacker wants to make the best of this opportunity even if it seems that he will be a reserve early on. Mariano will be an important player off the bench and his presence gives Real Madrid some much needed depth. It will be interesting to see if he has what it takes to start, though.
