Mateo Kovacic, Raphael Varane, Casemiro and Marcelo have been training in Valdebebas for the last two days as they wait for their teammates to end the pre-season stage in the United States. Julen Lopetegui’s assistant Albert Celades is in charge of the training sessions trying to get these four players in good shape for the upcoming UEFA Super Cup Final against Atletico de Madrid.
Luka Modric has Lopetegui’s permission to join the squad a bit later because of the amount of minutes he played in the recent World Cup. Modric has been rumored to be on Inter Milan’s radar this summer but Lopetegui denied those reports and said that Modric will stay in the Spanish capital.
Real Madrid still need to find an answer to Mateo Kovacic’s desire to leave the club. The midfielder spoke to MARCA this summer and revealed that he wants to leave Madrid to find minutes as a starter elsewhere, something he won’t have this season with Casemiro, Modric and Toni Kroos all almost surely being undisputed starters for Lopetegui.
