Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic traveled to London this Wednesday and passed his medical ahead of his loan deal which will send him to Chelsea for next season. On the other hand, Real Madrid will likely announce the signing of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois tomorrow, given that Chelsea are expected to announce they’ve signed Kepa very soon as well.

Kovacic expressed his desire to leave Real Madrid this summer as he is aiming to get a role as a starter. He wouldn’t have that kind of role with Modric and Kroos and that’s why ultimately he decided to force his way out. However, Madrid chose to keep control of Kovacic’s future by seeking a loan deal instead of a permanent transfer. The midfielder has great potential and Luka Modric is about to turn 33 years old, so this deal makes a lot of sense for all three part involved and is the perfect outcome for Madrid if Kovacic gains experience in London.
