Real Sociedad coach Asier Garitano confirmed that left-back Theo Hernandez will join the team this summer in what’s expected to be a loan deal between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad for the young player.

“It definitely seems that Theo Hernandez will come to Real Sociedad and help us, but we have to wait a little,” said Garitano in an interview with Onda Cero.

Hernandez completed a mediocre debut season for Real Madrid last season and will have a chance to redeem himself and prove that he can be a relevant player in the future. In the meantime, academy player Sergio Reguilon and Nacho Fernandez will be Marcelo’s backups this upcoming season, given that Madrid are not expected to sign another left-back.

Theo Hernandez is still 20 years old and has the potential to be a player who makes an impact every time he’s on the pitch. However, he must improve defensively quite a bit, something he’ll have to do if he wants to start for Real Sociedad.
