Real Madrid Unveil New Signing Thibaut Courtois Photo by Denis Doyle/Getty Images

Navas happy at Real despite arrival of Courtois

The player who “suffers” the most from the arrival of Thibaut Courtois is Keylor Navas. The 31-year-old’s starting position is now in question. To ease some tension though, Navas has weighed in on his situation going forward at Real Madrid.

“I say this with force, I have the same desire to leave than I have to die.”

With Courtois signed for six years, Navas seems to at least be a part of this team for the time being. He will likely back up Courtois this season, which will give Real one of the better keeper tandems in the world. And it certainly gives Real two great options going forward in net.

Courtois happy to join Real Madrid—a dream move

Real Madrid’s newest keeper appears to be pretty excited to join. Which is great news since his new contract will last the next six years.

“Today I fulfill a dream,” Courtois said. You cannot understand how happy I am. Those who know me know the effort I have put in to get here. “My hard work and my feelings have always been about being the best. I have the chance to fulfill a new dream.”

“I have dreamt about this since I was a child, admiring those who came on to the pitch to represent Real Madrid. “I have been a rival and I know what it is to face Real Madrid. Today I’m one of you. Hala Madrid.”

Just from an interview alone, fans can be excited that Courtois is happy to be here and this is a dream move for him. Hopefully this dream move will take Thibaut from a great goalkeeper to one of the world’s finest, if he isn’t already. And it’s always good to get players in that have dreamt about joining this club and playing in front of his family again in Madrid.

Perez comments on Courtois’ arrival

Florentino Perez gave his thoughts on the recent signing of Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea in Courtois’ official club signing conference.

“It’s a great day, we’ve got an important player who will help us to be better. The best goalkeeper from the last World Cup. Welcome, Thibaut Courtois. One of the best goalkeepers in the world, if not the best.”

“Now you (Courtois) have a great challenge, I am sure you can fulfil the wishes of all Madridistas. You know the city of Madrid is your home, your heart is here with your children and now the Santiago Bernabeu is part of your family as well.”

The pressure will be on for Courtois as he makes his move to Real. With the appreciation for Navas’ achievements with the club already, it is difficult to see him likely lose his starting position. But, getting two keepers and creating more depth at this position is absolutely worth it, especially when Navas is on board with the move.

No buy option in Kovacic’s loan to Chelsea

For those worrying about Kovacic being bought after his season-long loan, it appears we have some confirmation.

According to José Luis Sánchez, there is NO buy option for Chelsea on Kovacic’s loan. This is great news as there were conflicting reports that there was one included in the loan deal.

It appears, though, that Kovacic will play out the season at Chelsea and will come back to Real Madrid with new experience and hopefully as an even better player next summer. Getting first team experience is exactly what Kovacic needs before he takes his next big steps at Real and eventually as an everyday starter.
