Marco Asensio could’ve signed for Tottenham Hotspur or FC Barcelona before Real Madrid completed a deal with Mallorca but both clubs refused and decided not to send an offer for the young attacker, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo.
Current Barcelona scout Ramon Planes, who worked for Tottenham years ago, suggested that the Spurs should sign Asensio after one game Mallorca played against Zaragoza back in 2014. It would’ve been a cheap deal for the London-based club but ultimately they decided not to sign the player.
Real Madrid spent €4 million for Asensio and now he is one of the most promising players in European football. The attacker might start for Los Blancos this season now that Cristiano Ronaldo has left the club, and so far he has performed very well under new coach Julen Lopetegui. He is still 22 years old and definitely has room for improvement so that he can reach his potential.
