Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui could give Casemiro some rest this weekend when Los Blancos visit Bilbao, according to a report from AS. The Brazilian midfielder had a busy FIFA break with the Brazilian national team and could only complete Thursday and Friday’s training sessions, so Lopetegui could decide to leave him on the bench so that he is completely fresh and ready to perform against Roma next Wednesday.
If that happens, Lopetegui could start Isco in the midfield alongside Kroos and Modric. That way, Asensio, Benzema and Bale would start upfront trying to keep their good form going. Other options are Ceballos and Marcos Llorente. The latter is Casemiro’s only pure backup in the current squad, so it seems that he has a bigger chance than Ceballos or Isco, unless Lopetegui somehow proves to be brave enough to start Kroos as the defensive midfielder in San Mames.
Casemiro is a valuable player for Lopetegui, who could very well include him in his starting XI no matter whether he’s actually tired or not. This is an important game for Real Madrid and if the Spanish coach doesn’t trust Llorente much, Casemiro is probably his best choice to start alongside Kroos and Modric.
