Real Madrid held their members’ assembly this Sunday and president Florentino Perez talked about the current situation in the club. Perez was asked about why the club has to fund the new Santiago Bernabeu project when he has the money to do it. The president’s answer was quite convincing.
“The people who are speaking are doing so thank to the fact I put up front 147 million euros in 2000 due to the debt at that time,” said Perez. “All the English stadiums have cost over 1,000 million euros, for some people we would now be still playing at O’Donnell or the Ciudad Lineal,” he added.
Real’s president also revealed what he went through when he decided to ban the Ultras Sur from the Santiago Bernabeu.
“When I took on this role I did it for everyone, I invited those causing violence while I needed also to stop this violence. I cannot say how many times they have put graffiti on my house and even my wife’s gravestone which I have not mentioned up until now,” said Perez.
Florentino Perez won every single voting, with 98% of the members approving his budget, balances and membership fees. The president is here to stay.
