Real Madrid are interested in Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to a report from Telegraaf, one of the most prestigious outlets in Netherlands. De Jong is also being targeted by clubs like Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, per that same report, and a potential agreement for the midfielder could reach up to €80 million.
De Jong is still 21 years old and is very versatile, which makes him a potential defensive midfielder, central midfielder or even a center-back. He is one of the most promising prospects in European football and rumors suggested that Barcelona were going to make an offer for him this past summer.
However, Real Madrid don’t need to buy more midfielders for their current roster, given that Mateo Kovacic is set to return after his loan deal in Chelsea and that Dani Ceballos appears to be a relevant player for Julen Lopetegui. Still, De Jong could be an interesting asset to potentially replace Casemiro in the future.
