Real Madrid defender Marcelo sustained a calf injury during the away loss against Sevilla and was forced to leave the game. The Brazilian left-back will almost surely miss Saturday’s Madrid Derby against Atletico de Madrid.
“It seems that he has torn his calf, but we will have to wait and see for the medical tests tomorrow,” said Lopetegui after the loss in Sevilla.
If Marcelo isn’t ready to go against Atletico, Nacho could start on the left side of the defensive line if Lopetegui believes academy player Sergio Reguilon lacks the experience to play in such an important game for Los Blancos.
Even though Marcelo’s form is quite terrible at the moment and that he completed a poor performance against Sevilla, it’s clear that his absence will hurt Madrid’s chances in the Derby, especially because of his offensive creativity. If the tests confirm his tear, Marcelo could miss at least three weeks with this injury.
