Croatia coach says Kovacic “made the right call” by leaving Real Madrid and joining Chelsea

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic had some words to say about Mateo Kovacic’s departure from Real Madrid to join Chelsea this summer.

“Mateo has made a very good decision by changing teams. He’s a player who needs minutes to develop while playing in many games. He will only be able to improve if he plays consistently,” said Dalic.

It’s hard to argue against what Dalic is saying there. Kovacic was too good to be sitting on the bench on a permanent basis and he also has room for improvement. Real Madrid will most likely need to make a decision about his role in the club next summer, when his loan deal with Chelsea will expire.

If Modric doesn’t enter his decline any time soon, it’s unlikely that Kovacic accepts a role as a reserve once again, even more so if he’s a relevant player for Chelsea in the Premier League this season.
