“When you are coaching Real Madrid you have to win it all and do it while playing good football,” said Zidane. “There’s no difference between La Liga and the Champions League and how demanding they are, I always prepared for every single game the same way, no matter the competition,” he added.
Striker Karim Benzema will take on a new role this season now that Ronaldo has left the club. Zidane praised the Frenchman.
“Karim was important towards the balance of our offensive system and he helped us attack the way I wanted to attack. He implemented our possession system by playing with his teammates and he puts himself at the disposal of the team by being a team-first player,” explained the coach.
Zidane did not talk about the current Real Madrid squad but shared some more thoughts about his three years in the Spanish capital.
“Both are men who play with a lot of energy. Ramos is a leader and has great presence in the dressing room while Ronaldo inspires his teammates with his performances in the field. They complemented each other very well,” added Zidane.
“I was never under the impression that our team panicked. When you work with high quality players they know how to address those moments when you’re not playing well so they work and things go back to normal. My job was to keep everyone calm,” concluded Zidane.
