Real Madrid atop ESPN’s Power Rankings again

For the second week in a row, ESPN has granted Real Madrid with the top spot in their Power Rankings around the different football leagues. ESPN’s Shaka Hislop, a former Premier League keeper, has put them back in first after their 4-1 victory over Leganes.

Hislop also put rival Barcelona in the second spot, swapping with Liverpool from 3rd. PSG remained fourth in the rankings, while Chelsea was bumped up two spots for fifth.

Real have obviously captured the attention of ESPN at least with their performances and victories in the first three LaLiga matches of the season. Real do not play again until Saturday the 15th against Bilbao, after this weekend’s international break.

Atlético B’s captain Tachi apologizes to Vinicius for bite

Since the bite on Vinicius during last weekend’s match between Castilla and Atlético B, Tachi has come out and expressed remorse for his actions.

“It’s a reaction that came under the high pressure of the match.”

“I’m not proud of what happened and it does not reflect anything about me as a player.

“This action is not representative of anything instilled in us by the academy and I know it is not an example for people watching at home to follow.

“It does not represent the way I play and it is a pity that this action has taken prominence and eclipsed a good game from us against Castilla.”

“At the end of the game, I spoke to Vinicius. We gave each other a hug and everything was left there. Now I have to learn from this and move on.”

While Tachi’s actions were pretty bad, (very Suarez of him) at least he recognizes what he did was foolish. As the captain of the squad you are representing, you can’t afford to not own up to your actions.

It’s also good that he apologized personally to Vinicius after the match and left on seemingly good terms between the two. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again, to either party involved, it clearly was a ‘rookie mistake’.

Asensio was reportedly offered the ‘7’ shirt, but turned it down

According to COPE’s Julio Maldonado, Real offered Marco Asensio the number 7 shirt after Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus. He then reportedly turned down the honor and elected to stick with 20.

It would actually make sense if this report was true, especially when many have questioned why Mariano was given the number so soon after joining. Asensio would’ve been the natural fit since he plays Ronaldo’s position and is on his way to becoming Real’s next big star.

Should this report be true, it does give a little more context as to why Mariano was offered it over other players in the squad. Obviously, more of the pressure is put on him rather than Asensio to live up to the status of the 7 shirt.
