Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos talked to the press during Spain’s training camp ahead of the two friendlies they will play in this FIFA break. Ceballos explained what he felt last season under Zinedine Zidane, where he was a reserve and didn’t get any relevant minutes.

“During the regular season, I felt frustration and resentment towards Zidane,” he said. ”There was a moment in the season when both Kroos and Modric were injured but he decided to change the tactics to bring in others players instead. It burns you a little and hurts you. We were 15 points behind Barca and only had the Champions League to look forward to but I wasn’t considered there either,” he added.

Ceballos admitted that he hired a personal trainer to keep him fit and ready for this season so that he could make an impact during the first few days under Lopetegui.

“Yes, it’s true because I wasn’t playing neither Sundays nor Wednesdays and your fitness drops. I was trying to be in good shape. I would’ve tried to leave the club had Zidane stayed but Julen’s signing made things different,” explained the midfielder.

“He is trying to impose his style, which is different from the one we had last year,” he stated. “He wants a serious team who is ambitious with the ball. He likes to play with lots of possession and an attacking instinct,” concluded Ceballos.
